PCSC Athletes of the Week: November 6

The Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 30-Nov. 5 on Tuesday. Pepperdine's Julia Sneden claimed Division I honors, while Fresno Pacific's Laura Fornshell and UC San Diego's Garrett Tse collected the Division II awards for the week.

DIVISION I WOMEN

Julia Sneden, Pepperdine: Junior Julia Sneden turned in three outstanding swims in Pepperdine's second dual meet of the season, Nov. 4 against a very competitive Cal Poly. Julia helped her team place second in the 400 medley relay (4:01.88) with a season-best split of 57.43 in the 100 fly (her split of 25.19 for the 100 fly was personal best). She also placed second in the 200 fly (2:12.33) with another season best before finishing off the meet off with another runner-up showing in the 100 fly (:59.94).

DIVISION II WOMEN

Laura Fornshell, Fresno Pacific: Sophomore Laura Fornshell led the way for the Sunbirds in a dual meet against Fresno State, winning the 1,000 freestyle (10:19.88), 200 free (1:52.45) and 500 free (4:58.47) and recording NCAA B Cuts in each event. She also anchored the 400 free relay team with a leg of 51.29. The weekly award is Fornshell's second of the 2017-18 season.

DIVISION II MEN

Garrett Tse, UC San Diego: Junior Garrett Tse was No. 7 UC San Diego's top individual performer in a 151-105 loss to Division I rival UC Santa Barbara on Saturday. He was the lone Triton to record two individual wins, collecting half of the four combined victories for the Triton men and women. Tse swept the breaststroke distances in 57.86 and 2:04.22. He also timed a season-best 50.09 for fourth in the 100 fly.

The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
