PCSC Athletes of the Week: January 29

The Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 22-28 on Tuesday. Alaska-Fairbanks' Cassidy Heaton earned Division II honors while Loyola Marymount's Marley Abbott collected the Division I award in what was the last week of regular season competition for most conference squads before PCSC Championships begin on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

DIVISION II WOMEN

Cassidy Heaton, Alaska-Fairbanks: Heaton recorded two of the three Nanooks' victories against the University of the Incarnate Word. She won the 1000 free on Friday evening (10:42.60) and the 500 free on Saturday morning (5:13.01). "Her wins last weekend are all the more amazing when you consider she had a severe case of mono at the beginning of the year," Coach Scott Lemley said of Heaton. The award is Heaton's second of the 2017-18 season.

DIVISION I WOMEN

Marley Abbott, Loyola Marymount: Abbott placed second in the 50 freestyle in a dual meet against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with a time of 24.53. She also had two fast relay splits helping LMU to a win in the 200 medley relay, swimming the breaststroke leg and then anchoring the 200 freestyle relay at the end of the meet in 24.9.

The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
