After the morning preliminaries, she was the 1st alternate. She was standing by the referee at the start of the consolation finals, ready to go in case of an opening. A 'no-show' got her into the event and she dropped 7 seconds from her prelims time to 2:45.23. "There's an athlete who wanted to swim again," said meet referee and PCSC Commissioner Joyce Phelps. Jessica also competed in the consolation finals of the 200 Yard Breaststroke on Sunday, finishing 9th overall at 6:00.99. While neither her 200 prelim or finals time was her personal best, this weekend was a milestone that she will remember.

The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
