PCSC Athletes of the Week: Jan. 12

The Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 4-11 on Tuesday. The PCSC coaches named Loyola Marymount's Hannah Calton their Division I Athlete of the Week, while Cal State East Bay's Madison Hauanio garnered Division II honors along side UC San Diego's Michael Cohn.

DI Women

Hannah Calton, Loyola Marymount: Calton won a pair of events on Saturday in a double-dual meet against CSU Bakersfield and UC San Diego. Calton won her first individual event, the 200 butterfly, in 2:04.17. She returned to the water in the 100 butterfly for another first place with a time of 56.81. The native of Granite Bay, Calif. also swam in a pair of relays, helping LMU to a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay while swimming the leadoff leg in 53.73.

DII Women

Madison Hauanio, Cal State East Bay: Against San Jose State Hauanio recorded a medley relay split of 23.21 in the freestyle. She also posted times of 1:53.95 in the 200 free, 2:09.42 in the 200 backstroke and 2:09.14 in the 200 individual medley.

DII Men

Michael Cohn, UC San Diego: Cohn led No. 5 UCSD to a pair of dual-meet wins at home Saturday over Division I CSU Bakersfield and No. 21 Colorado Mesa. He swept the backstroke events, touching first in both by over a full second in 50.15 and 1:48.82, respectively, the latter a B cut and within a second of the pool record. He also swam the second leg of the fastest 400 free relay to conclude the meet, in 3:05.63 with a split of 46.41.

The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
