Day 2 Recap

Day 2 Recap

We are halfway through the 2026 Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference Championships, and the second night of finals ramped the energy up in epic fashion. The afternoon's events kicked off with the finals dives for the women's 3m and men's 1m events.

In the women's 3m dive finals, it was Santa Cruz's Paige Vicente (424.40) & Briseis Valenzuela (355.50) taking the first and third place finishes, sandwiching Azusa Pacific's Allison Ferrer (358.75). Biola took two spots on the men's 1m dive podium, with Caleb Pook (466.90) taking the win and Zac Siewart finishing third (371.00). The College of Idaho Yotes secured their first podium finish of the meet, courtesy of Matthew Logston's 432.90 point silver medal placing.

The swimming finals were led by the men's and women's 200 freestyle relays. The Master's took first on the women's side, with Megan Sutanto (23.85), Clara Patterson (22.97), Katherine Dyer (23.16), & Kylee Sears (23.76) combining to a 1:33.74. East Bay touched just behind with Tehani Kong (23.52), Amaya Rocheleau (23.37), Rae Ann Dressel (23.52), & Alexia Fajardo (23.68) swimming a 1:34.09. The men's event was dominated by UC Santa Cruz. Kyle Reitan (20.19), Andrew Koika (19.84), Charlie Hussain (20.14), & JJ Stoen (19.93) combined to a 1:20.10, three seconds ahead of second. It was a tight race for the silver medal position, but Fresno Pacific took it with August Ottsen (20.53), Laurenz Privo (20.95), Santiago Schutte (20.72), & Olivier Petre (20.82) combining to a 1:23.02.

The women's 100 butterfly kicked off the individual swimming campaign for the session, and was subsequently won by East Bay's Kong in a 54.44. Kong was flanked by teammate Fajardo (55.09) and Biola's Emilee Elizondo (55.95). Koika made it two for two for the Banana Slugs, never giving up the lead as he split 22.30/25.77 for a 48.07 victory. Fresno's Ottesen was just behind him in a 48.40, with the podium rounded out by Masters' Izaiah Trevino-Lozano (48.72). Seven of the top eight swimmers cracked 50 seconds, with Reuben Dobson winning the B-Final and also getting under (49.80).

The next individual event of the session brought the crowd to a roar, with the top four finishers in the women's 400 individual medley battling over nearly the entire race. Alaska's Dorka Dancsok was the first to the wall, swimming a 4:23.31. Dancsok was notably the fastest swimmer over the final 50 yards by over eight tenths of a second, and the only one under 30.00. Top seed coming into prelims Katherine Dyer touched for silver for Master's in a 4:23.57. East Bay's Kylie Beaudet was the final spot on the podium (4:24.35). She was pushed herself all the way home by Azusa's Aleena Herrera (4:24.76). Down at eighth was Concordia Irvine's first A-Finalist of the meet, Carissa Ward, who swam a 4:34.98.

The men's 400 individual medley saw a repeat of night one, with Masters' Evan Nail securing a second meet win in a 3:54.26. After challenging Nail early on, Santa Cruz's Asher Kates was able to secure himself a sub-4:00 swim as well (3:58.36). Storming home for third was his teammate Sebastian Santiago, who had the second fastest last 50 yards of the field to swim a 4:01.43 personal best. The C-Final saw a lone swimmer, Masters' William Butts, flanked by his team cheering, as he touched in a 4:45.73.

The women's 200 freestyle continued the trend of exciting races, with Kylee Sears defending her spot in the premier lane four and taking the win in a 1:51.52. Just 23 hundredths behind her was Alaska's Ali Pecore (1:51.75), with another 27 hundredths separating her from teammate McKenzie Fazio (1:52.02). The top four finishers were separated by just 1.38 seconds. Maggie Clemens was the B-Final champion for East Bay in a 1:53.20, a time that would have placed her fifth overall.

Building UC Santa Cruz's lead in the men's 200 freestyle final was Massimo Reyna, who held off a charging field to nearly match his prelims effort in a 1:38.77. Biola's Koen Vos took silver (1:39.04) and Petre took bronze for Fresno (1:39.24). The Idaho Yotes made some noise in the C-Final, with Karl Yount (1:46.90), Jace Zemlicka (1:46.97), & Sam Cortez (1:47.78) all scoring points. It was Soka's Jaeger Frazier though who took top honors in the C-Final field with a 1:45.82.

The East Bay women closed off the night with another victory in the 400 medley relay. Taylor Kolsch (56.88), Dressel (1:02.70), Kong (55.40), & Fajardo (51.17) taking the win in a 3:45.95. Azusa took second with the quartet of Mikaela Maemura (56.98), Courtney Seljeseth (1:03.45), Angelica Benitez (56.31), & Sydnee Wilson (51.03) swimming to a 3:47.77. East Bay had three of the four fastest splits of the field, with Alaska's Pecore anchoring on freestyle in a scorching 50.97.

UC Santa Cruz added another win to their dominant tally just two nights into competition in the men's 400 medley relay. Grayson Davies (48.38), PJ Fortune (55.54), Koika (48.05), & Reitan (44.15) swimming to a 3:16.12. The Master's University took the silver medal position with Michael Loughboro (50.73), Nail (54.34), Trevino-Lozano (48.74), & Dylan Crane (44.21) swimming a combined 3:18.02.
