PCSC Athletes of the Week: Jan. 27
The Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 18-23 on Wednesday. For the week, it was a sweep for Biola as the Eagles collected weekly honors for both men and women swim and dive awards.
DIVISION II WOMEN
Swimmer
Kolya Vos, Biola: Vos was force for the Biola women, as they won their first-ever dual meet win over a Division I opponent, this weekend at Cal Baptist. She swam to 3 golds, and 1 silver, despite not-so-great rainy conditions in Riverside. To start, Vos anchored the 400 Medley Relay A-team to a first-place finish, in a race where Biola went 1-2 to start the meet. Vos went on to compete in the 100 and 200 Freestyles, where she claimed 1st in both, touching in time of 52.99 & 1:54.87. To finish her day, Vos went toe-to-toe in a hard-fought 500 Freestyle battle, and despite a strong late push, she finished 2nd with a 5:14.40. Vos ended up tied as the top individual scorer of the meet with 33 points (22 Individually, and 11 relay).
Diver
Ashley Vitale, Biola: Vitale soared in the first meet of her second season. Vitale led the Eagle women's dive squad scoring 4th place on both the 1meter and 3meter springboards scoring 179.5 and 171.4 respectively
DIVISION II MEN
Swimmer
Tanner Smith, Biola: Smith led the Biola men in a tough battle against regional powerhouse, Cal Baptist. Smith recorded his 2nd fastest time ever in the 100 Backstroke, leading off the Eagles' 400 Medley Relay; a relay that broke the school record, which was set at last season's PCSC Championships. Smith continued his strong performance with two 2nd place finishes in the 100 Back (53.14), and the 200 Back (1:56.63). To finish the meet, Smith swam the 3rd leg of Biola's 200 Freestyle Relay, splitting a lifetime best, 20.76.
Diver
Westin Dawe, Biola: Dawe led the Eagles swim and dive by example exemplifying courage on a weatherly day capturing career bests on the 1meter springboard scoring 135.6 for 2nd place and on his first debut on the 3meter springboard scoring 124.15 for 2nd place again
