PCSC Athletes of the Week: Mar. 17
The Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Mar. 8-14 on Wednesday. Pepperdine earned both honors for the women with Paulina Holmberg collecting her third weekly honor this season, joined by Sammie Slater. For the men's, Biola's Westin Dawe picks up his second award while Matthew Trejo earns his first.
WOMEN
Swimmer
Sammie Slater, Pepperdine: The Waves' captain and freestyle specialist, Slater dominated the field in the 200 freestyle with a 1:55.46, finishing three seconds ahead of the rest of the field. She turned around and won the 500 free with a 5:18.08. Lastly, Slater anchored the 400 free relays with the fastest split for the Waves with a 53.5. This is Slater's first career weekly honor.
Diver
Paulina Holmberg, Pepperdine: Holmberg had two third place finishes at the Pepperdine Dive Invite, leading the Waves in the 1M and 3M board events. Holmberg finished with a score of 241.25 for the 1M and 217.85 for the 3M. This is Holmberg's third weekly honor this season and for her career.
MEN
Swimmer
Matthew Trejo, Biola: Trejo touched the wall first in both events during an Intrasquad style meet at Pepperdine. He placed first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:51.47 and in the 100 fly with a time of 52.72. This is Trejo's first career weekly honor.
Diver
Westin Dawe, Biola: Dawe competed in the Pepperdine Dive Invite and finished first in both the 1M and 3M. On the 1M he finished with a score of 144.60 and on the 3M finished with 150.80. This is Dawe's second weekly honor of the season and for his career.
The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
