PCSC Athletes of the Week: Mar. 31

The Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Mar. 22-28 on Wednesday. The Concordia Eagles swept the weekly honors as Faith Silzel earned the honor for the women and Taylor Steffen for the men.

WOMEN

Swimmer

Faith Silzel, Concordia: Silzel closed out her 2021 regular season with a bag in The Eagles dual meet victory at Redlands on Friday. She won the 200 free in a season best and PCSC #3 1:57.72. Swimming her first 400 IM of the season, she controlled the first 100 before opening up a big lead in the middle part of the race to grab her second win. She anchored the 200 free relay to a come-from-behind victory in a PR of 24.9. This is the first weekly honor of her career.

MEN

Taylor Steffen, Concordia: Preparing for his final PCSC meet, Steffen displayed his distance prowess at Redlands on Friday. He split his 1650 in 5:04-5:09-5:10-1:32 on the way to a season best and PCSC leading 16:56.07. He's the only man under 17:00 this season and looks to defend his conference title in three weeks. He also swam a PR in the 100 IM later in the meet. This is his first weekly honor this season and the second of his career.

The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
