PCSC Athletes of the Week: Feb. 3
The Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Jan. 25-31 on Wednesday. For the week, the honors were spread out as Morgan Bienias (Westmont College) and Paula Holmberg (Pepperdine) were voted for the women while Chris Haygood (Concordia) was selected for the men.
WOMEN
Swimmer
Morgan Bienias, Westmont College: Bienias had an outstanding meet against Biola & Simpson at Westmont College. The sophomore started out with a second-place finish in the 1650 Freestyle. Her time of 18:13.69 was 48 seconds faster than the NAIA Nationals provisional qualifying standard, and currently places her as 5th in the NAIA. The Corona, Calif. native also competed in the 200 Backstroke placing second with another provisional qualifying time. This is Bienias' third career Athlete of the Week honor, first of the season, and first for the Warriors.
Diver
Paula Holmberg, Pepperdine: The junior placed fifth against SDSU, the highest finish for the Waves, with a score of 198.75 on the 1meter. Holmberg did not compete in the 3 meter as it was cancelled to weather. This is Holmberg's second Athlete of the Week award, and third honor for the Waves this season.

Swimmer
Chris Haygood, Concordia: Haygood's collegiate coming out party was a great one as well as he posted two individual wins in the 50 and 100 freestyles and provided a lockdown anchor on his team's victorious free relay at the CUI Green v Gold Intrasquad meet. He put up a 21.95 in the 50 and 48.15 in the 100. Haygood's results places him 2nd and 3rd respectively in those events in the PCSC rankings.
The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
