PCSC Athletes of the Week: Mar. 3

The Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 22-28 on Wednesday. Concordia swept this week's honors led by Kyle Benjamin representing the men and Katelyn Thomas earning the award for the women.

WOMEN

Swimmer

Katelyn Thomas, Concordia: Thomas swam to the 5th fastest time nationally in the 100 backstroke (54.48) in The Eagles win over Cal Lutheran. The time is an NCAA "B" cut, a new school record and a personal best. She also won the 50 fly (25.77) with the fastest time in the PCSC, anchored the Eagles victorious 200 free relay and minutes later, went 23.70 to earn another "B" cut and the 20th fastest time in the nation. This is Thomas' first weekly honor of her career.

MEN

Swimmer

Kyle Benjamin, Concordia: Swimming his two events 25 minutes apart, Benjamin earned NCAA "B" cuts in the 400 IM (3:58.09) and 500 freestyle (4:31.84) for the third consecutive season. Both are in the top-25 nationally and jump Kyle to #1 rankings in the PCSC. For good measure, he blasted a 21.7 split on the winning 200 free relay 20 minutes after the 500 swim. This is Benjamin's second weekly honor this season and the fifth of his career.

The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
