Male Swimmer of the Week: Oct. 13 - 19, 2024
Asher Kates, Freshman, US Santa Cruz
Asher had an outstanding meet at the Slug Shootout, winning three events and scoring the most points in the meet on the men's side with 91. He won the 400 IM in a time of 4:10.69 which is the fastest in the PCSC this season and 4th in D3. He won the 200 IM as well in a time of 1:56.07, which is also the fastest in the PCSC this season and 14th in D3. And he won the 200 back in a time of 1:55.92, which is 3rd in the PCSC and 15th in D3. He also took second in the 100 back in a time of 52.64 which is the 8th fastest in UCSC history. He also swam on the Slugs' B medley relays, splitting 59.89 on the breast leg on the 400 and 25.22 on the back leg on the 200. He also had a 5th-place finish in the 50 back at the meet in a time of 25.19.
This is Asher's second consecutive Athlete of the Week honors this season. Asher was named PCSC's Male Freshman of the Week for the week of Oct. 6 to 12, 2024.
