Athletes of the Week Dec. 1 - 7, 2024
Female Swimmer of the Week
Nicole Skrzypek, Sophomore, Soka University
This past weekend at the Pioneer Classic hosted by Grinnell College, Nicole swam season-best times in all of her races highlighted by her 2nd Place Finish in the 50 Free with a 24.49 and 4th place finish in the 100 free with a 53.86. Those times place Nicole in the top 25 in the NAIA and the Top 32 in the PCSC. In addition, she swam lifetime best times in the 200 Free (2:00.74) and 100 Fly (1:05.49).
Female Freshman of the Week
Delaney Cowans, Soka University
This past weekend at the Pioneer Classic hosted by Grinnell College, Delaney Cowan placed 2nd in the 400 IM (4:50.66) which ranks her 20th in PCSC and 3rd in 200 Fly (2:15.86) with ranks 30th in PCSC and Top 25 in the NAIA. She also had season-best times in both the 200 IM (2:20.56) and 100 Fly (1:03.49).
Male Swimmer of the Week
Rion Kunimoto, Junior, Soka University
Rion deserves recognition not for his place at the Pioneer Classic hosted by Grinnell College but for the fact that after 3 years on the team, he was finally able to break 23 in the 50 Free (22.68) and 50 in the 100 Free (49.68). Rion has been trying to accomplish this goal since getting close the previous year. He also swam for the first time ever in the 500 Free and 200 Fly.
Male Freshman of the Week
Keegan Nichols, Soka University
Keegan, participating in his first major competition for Soka at the Pioneer Classic hosted by Grinnell College, Keegan swam 54.07 in the 100 Fly (Season Best) and his first 200 Fly ever (2:08.49) which placed him 6th at the meet. In addition, Keegan was a key participant in all of our relay swimming splits, which were faster than his races.
Female Diver of the Week
Chloe Dobie, Freshman, Concordia University Irvine
Chloe competed in two meets this weekend, putting up solid results against mostly D1 competition. On Friday, she dove at the Riverside Collegiate Invitational against UNLV, CBU, SDSU, Biola, and Chapman. She finished 13th in the 1m event ahead of two divers from Biola, one each from Chapman and SDSU as she experimented with some new dives.
This is Chloe’s third Diver of the Week honors of the season!
