Athletes of the Week: Oct. 6 to 12, 2024
Female Swimmer of the Week
Charlotte Fletcher-Stables, Graduate Student, University of Alaska Fairbanks
Charlotte had an impressive meet at this first dual meet of the season. She led her team to the PCSC first-ranked team in the 400 Medley relay with the time 3:39.53 splitting 59.15 in 100 backstroke. She has also placed 4th in 100 backstroke and 6th in 200 backstroke PCSC rankings with times 59.19 and 2:11.73. She closes up the meet by leading her team to a third-place ranking in the 200 Medley relay with 1:49:28 splitting 27.50 in 50 backstroke.
Male Swimmer of the Week
Kyle Reitan, Sophomore, UC Santa Cruz
Kyle won the 50 free in a time of 21.01, which leads the PCSC this season and stands as the 7th fastest time in D3 this season. He also won the 100 free in a time of 47.09. He also split 20.54 on the first-place medley relay. He finished the day by leading off the winning 400-free relay in a time of 46.18, a lifetime best for him and the fastest time in D3 so far this season.
Female Freshman of the Week
Lillian “Lily” Wolfinger, UC Santa Cruz
Lily started her Slug career by helping the A medley relay get a win with a breast split of 31.50. She followed that up by winning both breaststroke events and the 400 IM in times of 1:09.20, 2:28.83, and 4:44.87.
Male Freshman of the Week
Asher Kates, UC Santa Cruz
Asher opened up his Slug career splitting the fastest time in the field on the back leg of the 200 medley relay. Though it will be a mystery as he missed the pad. Classic freshman. He went on to win three individual events though, taking the 100 breast in a time of 1:01.35, the 200 back in a time of 1:57.01, and the 400 IM in a time of 4:12.75, which is the second fastest in the PCSC this season.
Female Diver of the Week
Briseis Valenzuela, Freshman, UC Santa Cruz
Briseis both boards at the Slug's first meet and her first college meet ever, vs. Whittier, with a score of 1m 225.30 and a 3m score of 215.55.
Male Diver of the Week
Charles “Charlie” Shortt, Freshman, UC Santa Cruz
Charlie debuted his college career by winning the 1m board with a score of 157.30 and the 3m board with a score of 176.65.
