Athletes of the Week: Sept. 22 - 28, 2024
Female Swimmer of the Week
Brooklyn Dressel, Senior, CSU East Bay
Brooklyn Dressel started the season just the way she finished it last year. Brooklyn led off the meet posting a 23.55 50-free split in the 3rd place finishing the 200 Medley Relay. She then battled it out with two 3rd-place finishes in the 50 Free (23.95) and 100 Free (52.15). Her most impressive swim came on the final race of the day, when she blasted out the lead-off leg of the 400 Free Relay with an NCAA Leading time of 51.28 for the 3rd Place Relay.
Male Swimmer of the Week
Jayden Hernandez, Senior, Concordia University Irvine
At his final PCSC Relay Meet, Jayden started his senior campaign with a bang. He was a member of four winning relays, helped the 4x100 medley and the 4x100 free relays set new meet team records, and his anchor (45.8) on the latter relay spurred the Golden Eagles to a come-from-behind victory to win the meet. He swam to a 50.31 lead-off 100 butterfly split, a 21.26 lead-off 50 free split, and a 49.1 butterfly split on the medley relay.
Female Freshman of the Week
Alexia "Lexi" Fajardo, CSU East Bay
Lexi Fajardo made a statement in her first collegiate dual meet for the Pioneers. Lexi secured the lone individual event win in the 200 Fly against a very talented Pacific Tiger Program. Her time of 2:05.66 would have placed third at last year's conference championship and is currently ranked 2nd in Division II. She backed that up with a 4th place 100 Fly (57.93), which also ranks second in the country behind her teammate, Tehani Kong. Although it's very early in the season, Le\xi looks to be a force for the Pioneers as the season progresses.
Male Freshman of the Week
Olivier Petre, Fresno Pacific University
Oliver made quite an impression in his 1st meet as a Sunbird recording times of 1:42.69 in the 200 free, 21.50 in the 50 free, and 47.16 in the 100 free. He concluded his meet with a split of 46.13 on the 400 free relay.
Female Diver of the Week
Lorelai Carney, Senior, Biola University
Lorelai got the school record in both 1 meter and 3 meter. She also got her NCAA cuts.
Male Diver of the Week
Caleb Pook, Junior, Biola University
Caleb won both boards and qualified for NCAAs in the 6-dive line-up.
