PCSC Athletes of the Week: Oct. 19
The Pacific Coast Swim Conference has announced the PCSC Swimmer & Divers for the week of October 12-19. Athletes from Arizona Christian (NAIA), Cal State East Bay (NCAA DII), and Pepperdine (NCAA DI) represent this week's award winners.
MEN
NAIA Swimmer
Kadin Van den Lingen -- Arizona Christian
Lingen led Arizona Christian with four top finishes in the tri-meet victory over Northern Arizona and Ottawa-AZ. The freshman from South Africa secured wins in the 100 Breast (1:00.48) and 200 IM (2:04.79) to go along with relay wins in the 200 Medley (1:57.16) and the 400 Free (3:26.60). This is Lingen's first weekly honor and one of two for Arizona Christian this week.
WOMEN
NCAA DI Swimmer
Emma Purdy - - Pepperdine
Purdy secured the Waves lone individual event in a dual meet with Cal State East Bay, where she finished first in the 50 Free (). The freshman followed her top finish the next day at UC Davis with second place finishes in the 50 Free (24.80) and 100 Free (53.89), both season bests for her. Purdy was also part of the team's fastest fly split for the season in the 200 Medley relay (25.64). This is Purdy's first weekly honor and is one of two for Pepperdine this season.
NCAA DI Diver
Lexie Martin -- Pepperdine
Martin was the top performer amongst the Waves' diving squad in the meet against UC Davis. The freshman scored 215.8 points in the 3 Meter event, placing her fourth in the event overall. This is Martin's first weekly honor and is one of two for Pepperdine this season.
NCAA DII Swimmer
Alondra Ortiz -- Cal State East Bay
In Cal State East Bay's victory over Pepperdine, Ortiz secured three top finishes for her team. The senior took first in the 100 Back (59.01) and 200 Back (2:07.72) individual events, both of which are top times in the PCSC. Her time for 200 Back is ranks in her the Top 20 in all of Division II. Ortiz also was part of the winning 400 Medley Relay team, splitting with a time of 59.21. This is Ortiz's first weekly honor and the first for Cal State East Bay this season.
NAIA Swimmer
Eva Garraux - - Arizona Christian
Participating in four events for the Firestorm at the Northern Arizona tri-meet, Garraux finished with two B cut qualifying times in the 100 Fly (1:00.19) and 100 Back (1:01.85). The freshman was also part of the top ACU team in the 200 Medley Relay (1:56.76) and swam the 400 Free Relay (4:03.18).
The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
