PCSC Athletes of the Week: Feb. 1

The Pacific Coast Swim Conference has announced the PCSC Swimmer & Divers for the week of January 25-February 1. This week eight athletes from Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, SOKA, and UC Santa Cruz received weekly honors.

MEN

NCAA DIII Swimmer

Sam Smith -- UC Santa Cruz

In the Slugs final homestand of the season, Smith secured wins in the 200 Free and 500 Free events. He also had a first-place finish in the 200 Free Relay, putting up the fastest split time amongst his team members for the day. This is Smith's second weekly honor of his career and one of ten for UC Santa Cruz this season.

NAIA

Zachary Holt -- SOKA

In the SOKA Senior Dual, the freshman broke a school record in the 100 Breast (59.70). Along with that, Holt had season-best times in the 50 Free and 200 Medley Relay, putting together a win. This is Holt's first weekly honor of his career and the third for SOKA this season.

WOMEN

NCAA DI Swimmer

Abby Shaw – Loyola Marymount

Shaw won a total of nine events over two days in the Lions weekend visit to Alaska. The sophomore had wins in the 50 Free, 100 Fly, 100 Free for individual events, where she won the first two events in back-to-back days. She was also part of LMU's winning relay events in the 200 Medley, 400 Medley, 200 Free, and 400 Free. This is Shaw's first weekly honor and the third for Loyola Marymount this season.

Haley Bergthold – Pepperdine

Bergthold was crucial to the Waves victory, securing multiple event wins. The senior was the fly leg in team's season-best time for the 200 Medley Relay (1:49.24). She was also the winner in the 100 Back (59.76) and 100 Fly (59.32). This is Bergthold's first weekly honor of her career and one of eight for Pepperdine this season.

NCAA DI Diver

Paulina Holmberg – Pepperdine

Holmberg finished top four in two events on the board against Azusa Pacific. She finished second in the 1M event, scoring a 257.03, and followd that with a 223.05 in the 3M event. She ended second and fourth in those events respectively. This is Holmberg's fourth weekly honor of her career and one of eight for Pepperdine this season.

NCAA DII Swimmer

Emma Corby – Alaska Fairbanks

Corby had four top two finishes for Alaska Fairbanks in their weekend faceoff with visiting Loyola Marymount. The senior secured first in the 200 Free, 500 Free, 400 IM, and finished second in the 200 Breast. Her time in the 400 IM ranks her fifth best in the PCSC this season.

This is Corby's second weekly honor and the second for Alaska Fairbanks this season.

NCAA DIII Swimmer

Elisabeth Lundgren – UC Santa Cruz

Lundgren collected event wins in the 100 Back and 200 Back in her final home event with the Slugs against Simpson. The senior also finished third in the 500 Free and also was part of the 200 Medley Relay event. This is Lundgren's third weekly honor of her career and one of ten for UC Santa Cruz this season.

NCAA DIII DIVER

Sachiko Correa – UC Santa Cruz

Correa set a program record against Simpson, finishing with a score of 234.0 in the 1M event. Along with her record, she set a season-best in the 3M event, snagging her a second-place finish. This is Correa's second weekly honor of her career and one of ten for UC Santa Cruz this season.

The PCSC includes institutions from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). All three divisions of the NCAA are represented. Each week, the PCSC coaches nominate and vote on the Athletes of the Week in seven categories: NCAA Division I women, Division II men and women, Division III men and women and NAIA men and women.
