2023-24 CSCAA Open Water Championship
The 2023-24 CSCAA Open Water Championship will take place on December 17, 2023, at Florida International University in Biscayne Bay. USA Swimming has once again designated the #CSCAAOWC as an approved qualifying event. The top five finishers for each gender earn invites to the USA Swimming 5K Open Water Championships.
Participation is limited to current NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA member institutions who meet the specific event qualifying criteria. All student-athletes must be eligible as certified by their member institution. Athletes must have achieved one of the below qualifying times between January 1, 2023, and the entry deadline. Meter conversions are acceptable.
Last year, only Biola University's Men's and Women's programs participated in the event. This year, five of the Biola University Men's team and two of the University of Alaska Fairbank's Nanooks will represent PCSC at the championship.
Coach Nathan Harding's five-man open water crew from Biola University are Noah Hall, Michael Maurer, Don Onu, Sean Rho, Jr., and Gavin Souttere. Maurer, Onu, and Rho are return participants from last year while Hall and Souttere are first-timers.
Payton Wojciechowicz and Tori Shoemaker of the University of Alaska Fairbanks will represent the Nanooks as newcomers to the championship.
Swimmers will compete as individuals while being entered into team events. Team events will be conducted concurrently with individual events, with the results achieved in the individual event used to compute the team scoring. Individual champions shall be determined and awarded in women’s and men’s competitions. Awards shall be awarded to all first-through-eighth-place finishers in each individual event.
The Men’s 5k Race will begin at 8:00 a.m. EST and the Women’s 5k Race will begin at 10:00 a.m. EST.
