Female Swimmer of the Week
Alex Leland, Sophomore, Concordia University Irvine
Alex had an excellent meet in the tri-meet between CUI, CSU East Bay, and San Diego State University. In the competition against CSUEB, she swam to a 30.2 split on the victorious 200 medley relay. She also won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.53) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.44) events and as a late addition to the 400 free relay, she provided a 54.4 split on the runner-up relay.
Female Freshman of the Week
Carissa Ward, Concordia University Irvine
Carissa had a solid outing at the CUI/CSUEB/SDSU tri-meet last week. In the dual meet vs East Bay, she won the 200 IM (2:14.84) and was second in the 200 Back (2:11.10). She also led off the 200 medley relay and provided a leg on the 400 free relay. She already has PCSC top-10 times in these individual events.
Male Swimmer of the Week
Massimo Reyna, Sophomore, UC Santa Cruz
Massimo won two events at the dual meet vs. Fresno Pacific over the weekend. He began the meet by winning a hotly contested 200 freestyle in a time of 1:43.11. Later in the meet, he won the 500 freestyle in dominating fashion, in a time of 4:50.89. He also took second place in the 100 free in a time of 47.80 and led off the Slugs' A 400 free relay in a top split of 48.61. His efforts were a major factor in the Slugs' victory over the Sunbirds.
This is Massimo's second time being named Male Swimmer of the Week this 2023-2024 season.
Male Freshman of the Week
Michael Fusinati, UC Santa Cruz
Michael helped lift the Slugs to a win on Saturday over Fresno Pacific. He started the meet with a big win in the 1000-yard freestyle in a personal best of 10:03.49, despite some very erratic splits. He followed that up with a second-place finish in the 500 free, with a time of 4:54.81. He rounded out his day with a lead-off leg of the Slugs' C 400 free relay in a split of 50.77, outsplitting 3 of the 4 B-relay swimmers.
Male Diver of the Week
Ford Meyer, Freshman, UC Santa Cruz
Ford placed second in the 1m board with a personal best of 99.80 points.
