Athletes of the Week Jan. 7 - 13, 2024

Athletes of the Week Jan. 7 - 13, 2024

Female Swimmer of the Week

Hannah Sharp, Freshman, CSU East Bay

Hannah Sharp had a big weekend of racing despite the rain and sub-50-degree weather conditions. She went undefeated (3 for 3) in all of her backstroke events. On Friday against power squads of San Jose State and Simon Fraser, Hannah won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.70. On Saturday,  she won both the 100 and 200 Backstroke with a lifetime best of 57.50 in the 100 Back and much improved 2:04.26. She also finished 2nd in the 200 IM (2:14.92).

Visit CSU East Bay Swim & Dive website to read more on Hannah's award.

Female Freshmen of the Week (We have a TIE!)

Reese Veron, CSU East Bay

Reese Veron had a breakout weekend. Reese picked up a big 2nd-place finish on Friday against San Jose State and Simon Fraser in the 200 Fly (2:13.67). She followed that up with a HUGE Saturday finishing 2nd in both the 100 and 200 Fly with swims that were faster than her performance at our midseason invite. She finished 2nd to her teammate and conference leader in the 200 fly with a (207.60) which currently ranks 4th in the conference. She followed that up with a (58.23) in the 100 fly. These swims propelled the team to wins over Santa Cruz and SWOCC, despite falling short by 12 points to #15 ranked Simon Fraser.

Dorka Dancsok, University of Alaska Fairbanks

Dorka swam very well against Westmont after traveling home the day before from our training trip in San Diego. On Day 1 of our dual, she helped the 400 medley and freestyle relays both to 1st place (100 BR-1:05.63, 100 FR- 54.36) and finished 1st in the 200 IM (2:08.56) and the 100 Breast (1:07.31). On Day 2, she helped the 200 medley and freestyle relays to 1st places (50 BR- 30.38, 50 FR- 24.64) and finished 1st in the 200 and 100 Freestyles (2:00.82, 55.68) both events that she does not normally swim. All of her swims helped our team achieve overall wins on both days.

This is Dorka's fourth time being named Athletes of the Week of 2023-2024 season!
